Crafting the Celestial Saga: Multiplayer - What Could Have Been

If you follow me on social media or have read previous Crafting the Celestial Saga entries, you’ll know that when I first started developing the Celestial Saga, I had it as a video game in mind. While developing these concepts, as a huge fan of Halo multiplayer, naturally I had to come up with multiplayer for the games. My ideas combined elements of Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Mass Effect 3.

Halo 3 had some of the best maps in the series. It's also where I spent a lot of time in multiplayer and custom games. Especially since this is the first Halo multiplayer I played over XBOX Live. I wanted the maps to feel like Halo 3 and the multiplayer to play as good. With a full array of customization as well.

Halo: Reach and Mass Effect 3's multiplayer combined for how I thought the multiplayer would be played. There would be two teams, one team would play as the United Celestial Alliance, the other would play as the Kaltari Empire. This would be randomized so you wouldn't know which side you would play as until the game was loading. You would be able to customize your UCA and Kaltari characters. Such as Invasion from Halo: Reach.

The multiplayer maps would be scattered around the Milky Way and each one would serve as the site of a major battle. The studio would monitor the win and loss ratio between both sides to determine which side was the true victor of that particular battle. This would have implications on future games. Mass Effect 3's multiplayer had mission success or failure impact galactic readiness.

I still think about the PvP multiplayer I had in mind for the Celestial Saga. Maybe even more now than before since I have largely stepped away from PvP as I haven't liked a lot of modern PvP games. I've also put a fair amount of thought into PvE modes as well. As I have grown older, and less interested in PvP, if there ever was a Celestial Saga game, there would have to be PvE as well.

Perhaps one day I'll find a way to bring these multiplayer concepts to life within the Celestial Saga universe. I have a lot that I want to do with that series and I'd like to have a multiplayer game I can feel excited about again.
